New Year in Hamburg

29 December 2025 to 2 January 2026

Prices from: CHF 4'340.-

We welcome in the New Year in style in the maritime jewel of the North:

Hamburg, with its fascinating blend of worldly atmosphere and historical charm. The vibrant port city is famed for its striking Elbphilharmonie, idyllic Alster lakes, renowned State Opera and lively St. Pauli district, offering a unique symbiosis of culture, history and modern urban life. The Speicherstadt warehouse complex, an exceptional example of Neo-Gothic and modernist architecture and testimony to the development of international maritime trade, was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status on 5 July 2015, along with the Kontorhaus district. Our programme combines musical highlights with visits to exceptional places.

Gateway to the world, pearl of the North, green city on the water: Hamburg has many claims to be one of Germany’s most beautiful metropolises. It offers an unparalleled combination of maritime flair and vibrant big-city life. The Elbe river, the port and the historic backdrop of the UNESCO-listed Speicherstadt give Hamburg an unmistakeable atmosphere complemented by a cosmopolitan lifestyle. The Hanseatic city is also known for its many bridges and canals – more than Venice and Amsterdam combined.

The traditional excursion takes visitors to Lübeck, the queen of the Hanseatic League, and is a particular highlight of any tour. With its winding alleys and passageways and beautiful merchants’ houses, famous Holstentor gate and charming old town island, where seven church spires dominate the skyline, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987.

On our trip to North Germany, we experience an unforgettable mix of tradition, modernity and classical music.

Own travel arrangements to Hamburg and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten*****, a shining example of a European grand hotel. The heir to a venerable tradition and a prominent feature of the cityscape for decades, it also sets standards internationally. Today’s excursion takes us to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, some 70 km north-east of Hamburg. UNESCO-listed Lübeck is at once a living monument to rich merchants, a centre of culture and a modern university city. Our guided tour transports us back to the Middle Ages: as we stroll through the narrow streets, it is not hard to imagine them thronged with Hanseatic merchants and mariners. The historic old town is a captivating blend of the old and the contemporary. Lübeck is also famous for marzipan, which is intimately bound up with the city’s history. The Marzipan Museum takes us on a journey into the distant past, retracing the evolution of the almond-based delicacy over many centuries, from its eastern origins to the city on the Trave river.

After lunch, we return to Hamburg.

One of Hamburg’s principal churches, it was partially destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt with a modern tower. We admire the medieval splendour of the interior. Its treasures include three medieval altars, a city panorama from 1681, as well as other historic paintings. The church’s western gallery is home to an especially precious artefact: the Arp Schnitger organ dating from 1693. With more than 4,000 pipes, it is the largest surviving Baroque organ in northern Europe. Cantor Gerhard Löffler gives us a presentation of the organ, while an exclusive recital allows us to experience the unique sound of this historic instrument.
