Cunard Line – a legendary shipping company:
A great name with a great history. When the visionary ship owner Samuel Cunard launched the regular transatlantic liner service with the steamship Britannia in 1840, he could hardly have dreamt that his name would one day become a legend. Some 185 years later, Cunard has long since become synonymous with top-class ocean voyages. Today, the majestic Queen Mary 2 and her two younger sisters Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth carry on the Cunard tradition.
The three queens of the seas are regarded as the most modern Cunard ocean liners of all time. They proudly carry the name of the legendary founder of the shipping company, commemorated by a bronze statue in Halifax harbour, around the world. We cordially invite you to travel in the footsteps of Sir Samuel Cunard. Programme schedule
Sunday, October 26th - Friday, November 7th, 2025
Individual flight arrangements to New York and transfer to WestHouse Hotel***** New York. The hotel is located at one of the most prestigious addresses in Midtown Manhattan, close to the theatre district and within walking distance of Central Park, Fifth Avenue, the Rockefeller Center and MoMA.
We come together in the evening for a superb welcome dinner.
Following a generous breakfast, we meet up with our local tour director, who will spend the next few days showing us “her” New York. We begin with an introductory tour of Manhattan, where we explore Chinatown, Little Italy and the artists’ quarter of SoHo. From the Top of the Rock viewing platform, we take in the breathtaking view of the city. The fashionable Meatpacking District is home to the New York High Line, an elevated park created from a former goods railroad dating from the 1930s, while the enthralling Chelsea Market is just a stone’s throw away. Lunch in a good restaurant is included.
We visit the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero. At the site where the twin towers collapsed in 2001 as the world looked on in horror, a striking and thought-provoking monument now stands. We then move on to the Financial District, where we gain an insight into the world of investments and discover the secrets of Wall Street, as well as seeing the Federal Reserve Bank, J.P. Morgan building, Charging Bull and more. Lunch is once again included.
Today, our programme begins at Grand Central Terminal, the world’s largest railway station situated in the heart of Manhattan. Its imposing façade bears witness to an eventful history and is in striking contrast to a city dominated by modern skyscrapers. Officially opened in February 1913, it has been a New York landmark for more than a century.
We then take an extensive guided tour of the United Nations headquarters (subject to cancellation if a major event is taking place). This is a unique opportunity to learn about the important but complex work of the UN and its member nations. In the company of a licensed guide (English-speaking only), we explore the United Nations building and gain a better understanding of social problems, human rights and world peace. We also view the famous General Assembly Hall, the Security Council Chamber, and other conference rooms. Lunch included.
We immerse ourselves in the vibrant history and culture of Greenwich Village, a haven for artists, writers and eccentrics amid the hectic life of New York City. During our walk through these storied streets, we hear tales of Bob Dylan, Edgar Allan Poe and even John Wilkes Booth.
Then it’s time for a change of perspective and a fortifying lunch as we cruise down the river on a boat, watching the buildings, bridges and sights of the city slip by.
