The Alpine Classic Pullman Express combines the allure of a luxury train journey with an unforgettable Alpine experience. We travel in elegant, historic coaches fitted out in the enchanting Art Deco style of the early 20th century. The Bernina Pullman Express is made up of this historic rolling stock.
Everything in these coaches exudes elegance, from the comfortable armchairs and bay windows to the dainty window tables and exquisite teak fittings. But it is the perfect aesthetic harmony of all the details and the unmatched ambiance that make for a unique experience.
The Bernina Express has been drawing travellers from around the world since 1973. The highest railway line over the Alps, it links Europe’s north with its south, blending perfectly into the mountain landscape.
Standing 2,253 metres above sea level is the railway’s highest point, the Ospizio Bernina. The train winds its way along the Lago Bianco, and passengers can savour breathtaking views from the Graubünden Alps all the way down to the Bergamo Alps. A sensational descent of some 1,300 metres begins, passing Alp Grüm, through the high Cavaglia valley and down to Poschiavo.
Our nostalgic ‘Alpine Classic Pullman Express’ is pulled by the legendary Bernina Crocodile locomotive, which was delivered to the Bernina Railway on 10 March 1928. Over the years, it was rebuilt and since 1961 has travelled under the registration number 182. The BB Ge 4/4 82 had an eventful history.
The locomotive was decommissioned and exhibited in the Swiss Transport Museum in 1977. In 1984, a Frenchman bought it and used it south of Grenoble. In 1999, the locomotive was bought from the bankruptcy estate by the Graubünden Railway Club 1899 and restored. Since 2010, the venerable locomotive has once again been travelling on the Bernina line for special nostalgia trips.

Departure from St. Moritz at 10.25 AM as a special train with two Pullman carriages pulled by the Bernina Crocodile RhB Ge 4/4 182. We take our seats in the luxurious compartment from the 1930s and enjoy the fascinating journey with constantly changing views. It runs along the Bernina line, one of the most spectacular routes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Poschiavo.
A 30-minute stopover in Alp Grüm is planned at around 11.30 AM.
Arrival in Poschiavo approx. 1.00 PM.
