The «Alpine Classic Pullman Express»

is experienced as a luxurious seduction and alpine adventure simultaneously. We travel elegantly on rails in historic carriages adorned with the enchanting Art Deco style of the early 20th century. The extra train of the “Glacier Pullman Express” is composed of this historical rolling stock.

It’s not just the comfortable armchairs, bay windows, delicate window tables, or the precious teakwood that symbolize the elegance of the carriages. It is rather the masterpiece, the harmony of all details along with the special ambiance that defines the unique experience. Thus, the four Pullman carriages, each with 32 seats, create a cohesive atmosphere for refined travel, primarily on the rail network of RhB. Specifically for journeys with the “Glacier Pullman Express”, the carriages also operate on the route of the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn from Disentis to Zermatt and back.

The “Glacier Pullman Express” consists of two original Pullman carriages from 1931 from the ‘Cie. Int. des Wagons-Lits et Grands Express Européens.’ The valuable wood inlays are the work of the famous French cabinetmaker René Prou. Additionally, there is a piano bar car from 1928 and a luggage car from 1931. For onboard lunch, two Gourmino dining cars from 1929 and 1930 also join.

All carriages are lovingly restored and comply with today’s safety regulations. The train is authentically pulled by historical locomotives, including the world-famous “Crocodile” on a section of the Rhaetian Railway.

Individual arrival to St. Moritz and the booked hotel.

Departure from St. Moritz at approximately 08:00 with the “Glacier Pullman-Express – Private de Luxe Train”. In 2008, the Albula and Bernina lines of the Rhaetian Railway were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today, we travel the Albula route from St. Moritz to Thusis.

St. Martin’s Church in Zillis
Bus transfer to Zillis. St. Martin’s Church is first mentioned in a document in the year 831 as “ecclesia plebeia”. The painted ceiling was created between 1109 and 1114. This artwork is the only one of its kind worldwide, nearly completely preserved without overpainting.

Lunch on Board
On the way to Disentis, the Pullman-Express Brigade serves a fine lunch in the Gourmino dining cars.

Ruinaulta – the Spectacular Rhine Gorge
Into the pleasure – along the Rhine. It is still young, narrow, but mighty nonetheless. So powerful that, over centuries of work, it carved out and devoured the spectacular Swiss Grand Canyon from the stone.

Disentis Monastery
The Benedictine monastery in Disentis was founded around the year 720. Flourishing and decline alternated. For centuries, the Benedictine abbey has been running a school, since 1880 as a high school and boarding school. A monk shows us parts of the monastery and talks about daily life.

Oberalp Pass
In Disentis, a locomotive from the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn is coupled, pulling our extra train over the 2033 m high Oberalp Pass to Andermatt.

Overnight at the Foot of St. Gotthard
In the year 1203, Andermatt was first mentioned in documents. In the years 1818 to 1830, the Gotthard became navigable. Andermatt became a vacation, spa, and trade destination. Arrival in Andermatt around 19:00. Evening at leisure and overnight stay.

After breakfast, continue the journey with the “Glacier Pullman-Express” to Realp.

Pure Steam Train Romance on the Furka Mountain Line
The Furka Mountain Line was used by the “Glacier Express” until October 1981. After the Furka Base Tunnel was put into operation, the track was decommissioned and handed over to the Furka Mountain Line (DFB). In countless hours of voluntary work, the track, locomotives, and carriages were repaired and prepared.

Our adventure ride begins in Realp (1546 m). The over 100-year-old steam locomotive climbs to the highest railway station, Furka (2163 m). We cross the culmination point of the journey at over 2100 m above sea level. The steam journey ends in Oberwald (1366 m), and we continue by Pullman train to Fiesch.

Eggishorn and Aletsch Area
With the cable car, we ascend to a unique vantage point in the Aletsch area, Eggishorn (2866 m). The mighty Aletsch Glacier, the centerpiece of the UNESCO World Heritage Aletsch, lies at our feet.

On Fiescheralp (2212 m), we indulge in typical Swiss cheese specialties, cheese fondue, or raclette. Of course, there is an alternative for non-cheese lovers.

Arrival in Zermatt
Around 7:30 PM, our “Glacier Pullman-Express – Private de Luxe Train” reaches the destination, Zermatt. Overnight stay at the booked hotel.

After breakfast, individual departure and return journey.
